Far from her early career roots in the ever-graphic Fifty Shades film franchise, actress Dakota Johnson has graduated to the colossal Marvel bubble with a leading role as Cassie Webb in Madame Web. But as intriguing as Johnson appearing in a Marvel movie undoubtedly is, folks are apparently far more interested in a separate theory — the possibility of the actress getting plastic surgery.
As previously mentioned, Johnson has already done her part as the leading lady in S.J. Clarkson’s Madame Web — which is actually set to be a project involved in Sony’s Spider-Man realm and is set to release on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14). And with the movie just a few weeks away from landing in theaters, Johnson has quickly become the main focus, with the 34-year-old performer appearing at a Madame Web photocall earlier today in London.
Upon release of the photos, showcasing Johnson in a gorgeous black ensemble, and a previous appearance on SNL, a fair amount of folks have started to wonder whether or not Johnson has actually had any professional work done.
So, has Johnson had plastic surgery in the past?
At the current time of this writing, there’s no exact reason to believe that Johnson has had any work done, as she herself has never confirmed these rumors. And, if there’s anything to be understood about Hollywood and ever-swirling whisperings, it’s that rumors are sometimes just that — completely fabricated. Still, the chatter has seemingly yet to waver, with certain facial observers examining parts of her face and wondering if any plastic surgery has been performed.
The range of these rumors touch on areas of Johnson’s face — including her nose, with folks wondering about rhinoplasty, an eyebrow lift, or lip filler injections. Again, with none of these procedures ever being confirmed by either Johnson herself or a medical physician or surgeon, it’s best to simply be satisfied with the answer that the Texas native has not had any plastic surgeries in the past.
Even if plastic surgery were the case in this situation, any professional work done to a person’s face and/or body certainly does not discount their determination, talent, or work ethic — so there’s absolutely no reason to question Johnson’s abilities as a gifted actress. In fact, MCU fanatics are sure to get a divine taste of her exemplary work when the latest Sony/Spider-Man chapter hits theaters in time for the most romantic day of the year.

From witches casting devious spells to ferocious bears fueled up on cocaine to sinister demons haunting an abandoned hospital, the horror genre is chock-full of different topics and sub-genres that keeps gorehounds on their toes and the hair raised on the backs of their necks. And when it comes to the heart-stopping power of Tarot cards, it was only a matter of time until a fearful horror feature was based around the entire concept.
Ironically titled Tarot, the fresh-faced spooky experience is the latest horror craze taking the internet by storm as the entire community prepares for the movie’s arrival. Centering around an “unspeakable evil” that is unleashed after a particular gathering of Tarot readings, it’s certainly no wonder as to why horror fanatics are eager to learn more about the project.
Sure, the entire ordeal could unfold to be nothing more than a silly teen horror flick — although, those do work (we’re looking directly at you, I Know What You Did Last Summer).
When is Tarot scheduled to be released?
At the current time of this writing, Tarot, which was originally labeled with the working title Horrorscope, is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 10, 2024. And while some within the horror community might be disappointed that the horror flick won’t be released during the spooky season, there’s absolutely no reason to believe that the film won’t be a fun experience. In fact, sometimes horror movies released during the spring/summer simply need to happen. And besides, horror knows no season, at the end of the day.
Is there a trailer for Tarot?
For those horror die-hards sitting back and patiently waiting, yes, there is an official trailer for Tarot — which can be viewed above. Based on the trailer alone, horror supporters can surely expect a spine-tingling feature full of sinister supernatural creatures with an obvious vendetta. One thing is for certain: We’ll all be very careful when we use Tarot cards in the future.
Who’s in the cast of Tarot?
Believe it or not, Tarot interestingly features a lineup of up-and-coming talents which are surely familiar faces — including Larsen Thompson (Pearl), Harriet Slater (Pennyworth), Adain Bradley (Wrong Turn), and Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: No Way Home). Directing all these young stars, with many of them having experience in horror films already, will be both Spenser Cohen (Moonfall) and Anna Halberg (Extinction), who also equally wrote the new horror flick.

James Patterson is one of the most successful American book authors of all time, and also one of the most prolific. He’s best known for the Alex Cross series, a crime mystery series about the eponymous detective, as well as his astounding output of over 200 books, many of which he has co-authored with various other writers and celebrities including Dolly Parton and former president Bill Clinton.
Patterson’s strong suit is his engaging and highly entertaining stories and a kind of writing that makes him accessible to all kinds of audiences. Naturally, they make for reasonable television and film, too, with many being adapted into shows and movies over the years.
The 2020 adaptation of the similarly titled novel, The Postcard Killings, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Famke Janssen, and Cush Jumbo, has recently made it to number one on the U.S. Netflix charts. Making the most of Patterson’s knack for suspense and a healthy dose of theatrics, this Danis Tanović-directed crime thriller is best paired with the following James Patterson page-to-screen adaptations.
Kiss the Girls (1997)
To kick off your Alex Cross deep-dive, this 1997 take on Patterson’s most popular detective taps Morgan Freeman for the role and takes from the 1995 novel of the same name about a series of abductions that grab Cross’s attention when his niece becomes the latest victim. Dr. Kate McTiernan, played by Ashley Judd, manages to escape capture, and becomes the detective’s most valuable informant.
Kiss The Girls is directed by Gary Fleder for Paramount Pictures, and you can stream it with a Paramount Plus or MGM Plus subscription.
Along Came A Spider (2001)
Morgan Freeman returns to the neo-noir psychological thriller world of Alex Cross one last time in Along Came a Spider, based on Patterson’s homonymous 1993 book. Directed by Lee Tamahori and released in 2001, the movie finds Cross retired after an operation that resulted in the death of his partner, but the kidnapping of a U.S. Senator’s daughter by a man trying to emulate the disheartening Lindbergh kidnapping of 1932 reels him into the job once again. The film also stars Monica Potter as Secret Service Agent Jezzie Flannigan, who pairs up with Cross to solve this mystery.
Also a Paramount Pictures movie, Along Came a Spider can be watched on the studios’ streaming platform as well as Peacock.
Alex Cross (2012)
A second go at turning the Alex Cross mystery series into a successful crime thriller film series was attempted in 2014, this time with Tyler Perry as the face of the project. Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider scribe Marc Moss returned to help write the screenplay for this Rob Cohen-directed adaptation of Patterson’s 2006 novel Cross. The story sees the famous detective track down a sadistic serial killer named Picasso, perhaps his most challenging opponent yet.
The film’s poor reception led to the cancelation of a planned sequel titled Double Cross, but it should still be a worthwhile 101 minutes for Patterson fans. It’s currently streaming on FuboTV, Paramount Plus, and Showtime.
Instinct (2018-2019)
If you want to be immersed in Patterson’s knotty crime mysteries for a bit longer, we’re happy to inform you that his work has been adapted into the television series format, too. Instinct and the following entry on our list are the best examples of how TV has taken the in-demand author’s stories to new levels.
This CBS show with the delightful Alan Cumming as the protagonist, the multi-hyphenate Dylan Reinhart, lasted for two seasons and made history as the first hour-long American network television drama series with a gay lead character. It borrows its story from a book series by Patterson and Howard Roughan centering Reinhart, an author, psychology professor, and former CIA paramilitary officer who offers his expertise to the NYPD to help them solve particularly puzzling and challenging cases as he partners up with Bojana Novakovic’s Lizzie Needham.
You can watch Instinct‘s seasons 1 and 2 on Paramount Plus.
Zoo (2015-2017)
Swap serial killers for killer animals in this slightly different but every bit as thrilling Patterson adaptation which aired on CBS between 2015 and 2017. Zoo takes from the 2012 science fiction novel of the same name co-authored by Patterson and Michael Ledwidge about the uprising of animals across the globe against humankind.
James Wolk plays zoologist Jackson Oz and is joined by Kristen Connolly as journalist Jamie, Nonso Anozie as safari guide Abraham, and others in a team-up of animal experts investigating the strange coordinated attacks. Although Zoo is not streaming anywhere at the moment, leaving Netflix in 2022, it is available to buy on Apple TV, Amazon Video, Google Play, and others.

Sofia Vergara has started her 2024 being on top of the headlines with her latest biographical crime drama, Griselda. The charismatic Colombian-American actress is famous for her playful, self-aware deployment of her beauty and sex appeal, as well as for her many outstanding performances on television and the big screen.
Sofia Vergara first rose to the limelight while co-hosting two television shows — Fuera de serie and A que no te atreves — for the Spanish-language television network Univision in the late 1990s. However, her first notable English-language role didn’t come until 2003, when she was signed to play one of the four leads in the comedy film, Chasing Papi.
The actress soon ventured to television and has held the record for highest-earning woman in U.S. television multiple times since 2012. Vergara’s most famous performance that shot her to international fame came in Modern Family, where she played the role of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett from 2009 to 2020. In light of the actress’ three-decades-long career, we have ranked her 10 best performances to catch the best of her talent.
10. Chasing Papi (2003)
Sofia Vergara’s breakthrough English-language acting role came in the romantic comedy Chasing Papi (2003), which opened her scope to the greater prospects that awaited her in Hollywood. Vergara portrayed Cici, one of Tomas Fuentes’ three girlfriends, and the protagonist. The story revolves around the drama that develops when the three women discover that their guy has been seeing each of them concurrently. Being a natural comedian, Vergara gives it her all while displaying her lively personality.
9. Bent (2018)
Sofia Vergara strays from her often comedic roles in 2018’s criminal thriller Bent, taking on a somewhat serious character. She portrays Rebecca, an attractive government agent who is challenged by the main character in his attempt to exact revenge on the person who killed his companion and framed him. Vergara plays a minor role in Bent, yet her character is essential to the plot. Even though Bent did not do particularly well at the box office, Vergara was able to demonstrate her versatility through her character in Bent.
8. Hot Pursuit (2015)
Sofia Vergara takes on the role of the widow of a drug boss in the 2015 action comedy film Hot Pursuit. The narrative revolves around a police officer played by Reese Witherspoon, who protects Vergara’s character, Daniella Riva, from corrupt cops and criminals who want her dead. Vergara captures the feisty, high-maintenance persona with ease, and she expertly sustains the mismatched chemistry between Cooper, played by Witherspoon, and herself.
7. Machete Kills (2013)
Vergara has surfed through almost every genre in her acting pursuits, acing everyone with grace. In the 2013 action exploitation sequel film Machete Kills, Vergara appears as Madame Desdemona, the madam of a bordello in Acapulco. Though portraying a fierce and eccentric antagonist, Vergara brings her signature humor and vivacious energy to the role. Even while being a supporting character, Vergara shines in her light as the leader of a gang of harlots.
6. The Female Brain (2017)
In the unique experimental comedy The Female Brain, a rigid and stoic university neurologist contrasts the male and female brains in an attempt to control her emotions. In the movie, Sofia Vergara portrays Lisa Hampton, a realtor with a 12-year-old son named Tyler. Her narrative is one of the film’s numerous interconnected episodes that examine the nuances of romantic relationships. To the delight of all, Vergara skillfully and deliberately takes on the challenging part.
5. Bottom of the 9th (2019)
The 2019 drama film Bottom of the 9th focuses on the story of Sonny Stano, who returns to his baseball aspirations after serving 17 years in prison. Sofia Vergara graces the screen as Stano’s love interest, Angela Ramirez. Vergara carries the emotional weight of the film on her back in a dramatic role within a sports-oriented storyline. The film showcases her emotional range, as she is tasked to represent a pivotal connection to Stano’s past.
4. Chef (2014)
In the road comedy-drama film Chef, Sofia Vergara plays the main character’s ex-wife, Inez. Even though her part is not the main emphasis of the narrative, Vergara does a fantastic job of portraying an accepting and supporting ex-wife who keeps a cordial relationship with her ex-husband despite marital conflict in their past. Her participation adds to the film’s examination of personal development and family dynamics. The film received positive reviews, and Vergara’s involvement in the film gave a boost to her career.
3. The Knights of Prosperity (2007)
While films formed a good part of Vergara’s career, it’s television where she first flourished. The 2007 ABC sitcom The Knights of Prosperity gave Vergara her chance to shine in the main cast as Esperanza Villalobos, the wife of a doorman. The show allowed Vergara to showcase her comedic talent in a television format. The fiery personality and refreshing humor brought to the show by Vergara were a springboard for her eventual casting as Gloria Pritchett on Modern Family.
2. Griselda (2024)
Vergara’s most recent project, Griselda, is based on the life of Griselda Blanco, who became “The Godmother” of the criminal underworld of 1970s Miami, Florida. Vergara is the leading lady of the show, appearing in front of the audience in a completely new avatar. The miniseries premiered on Netflix on Jan. 25, 2024, and praises are already going towards Vergara’s performance. Her bold, ruthless, and powerful presence in the series is unarguably one of her best.
1. Modern Family (2009-2020)
Guessing Sofia Vergara’s best performance isn’t a task at all. Her portrayal of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the ABC sitcom Modern Family remains her most iconic and memorable performance, even after several years. The show brought Vergara to the mainstream, and established her as a key figure in the entertainment industry. For the unversed (you should know it, really), Vergara’s character in Modern Family is a Colombian woman who becomes the wife of Jay Pritchett, and the stepmother to his adult children, and nobody could have played Gloria with Vergara’s brand of incredible charm, sharp wit, and amazing warmth.

The massive horror genre is chock-full of tropes that help to define the category as a whole. And out of the plethora of notable tropes, there is arguably none more significant than the “final girl’ trope, which, in hindsight, has helped to establish an array of scream queens. These scream queens — whether classic or modern — have seen their careers catapulted following horror movie success. Over the years, horror auteurs and creative filmmakers have given these lead actresses their well-deserved moment in the spotlight — and rather than running away aimlessly from the killer, these queens stand their ground and fight.
As a result, it is these stellar leading ladies that have aided in the popularization of the horror genre and kept the genre trucking for several decades now — and, truthfully, horror would have never been the same without them. So, here is our definitive list of the 10 best scream queens of all time, ranked.
10. Janet Leigh
It would be the ultimate travesty to generate a list of the best scream queens in horror without listing one of the greatest actresses of all time in the genre. Janet Leigh — mother of fellow scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis — has memorably etched her name in horror history with groundbreaking performances in Psycho and The Fog, and even Halloween H20: 20 Years Later. And while Leigh eventually went on to have a prolific Hollywood career, it was her success in horror films that earned her the label as a scream queen.
9. Vera Farmiga
As one of the most polarizing scream queens in modern cinematic horror, Vera Farmiga rightfully deserves a spot on this star-studded list. Farmiga has launched a successful career over the years, but perhaps no other title is greater than her reputation as a scream queen due to her exceptional portrayal of Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring films. But, before the massive success in James Wan’s brainchild, Varmiga kickstarted her career in horror by starring in Orphan — where audiences first caught a glimpse at her unmatchable talent in the genre, and resulted in her eventually earning the status of scream queen.
8. Marilyn Burns
Arguably, Marilyn Burns was one of the proudest scream queens in this stellar lineup. The late actress appeared at horror festivals throughout her entire life, and never turned away from her success in the horror genre. Burns first appeared in Tobe Hooper’s macabre masterpiece The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, where she portrayed memorable final girl Sally Hardesty. Burns followed up her success in the original by starring in both Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation and Texas Chainsaw 3D. After appearing in Hooper’s classic, Burns went on to star in the television miniseries Helter Skelter, which further helped solidify her acting prowess as a renowned scream queen.
7. Linda Blair
The Exorcist is unequivocally one of the most unsettling and memorable horror movies in the history of the versatile genre — and, truthfully, the film wouldn’t be nearly as prolific as it was without the talent of star Linda Blair, who was only a child at the time of starring in the movie. Blair eventually secured an Oscar nomination for her bone-chilling portrayal as Regan MacNeil, and while she was never able to reach similar success in future projects, it would be unjust to exclude Blair’s name from this list. Her talented acting ability and frightening portrayal have easily helped her become one of horror’s very best scream queens.
6. Anna Taylor-Joy
Despite being the youngest actress on this list, Anya Taylor-Joy has made quite the name for herself in the world of horror. The 26-year-old actress has lent her prowess to several successful horror movies, including The Witch, Split, and Last Night in Soho. Her versatile style and standout performances have quickly catapulted her into the discussion of unforgettable scream queens that have left a long-lasting impression in horror films. And despite her young age, Taylor-Joy has achieved several accomplishments at the box office and plenty of praise from critics and audiences alike.
5. Heather Langenkamp
Despite mainly adhering to the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, Heather Langenkamp has managed to solidify herself as one of the best scream queens in the genre. Langenkamp memorably launched her career by starring in Wes Craven’s 1984 original, which saw her portraying final girl Nancy Thompson. As the perfect counterpart for Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger, horror audiences immediately became fascinated by Langenkamp and she soon established her name in horror. To this day, Langenkamp is proud of her horror roots, and she will forever hold the distinction of being a memorable scream queen.
4. Samara Weaving
The second-youngest actress on this list should certainly not come as a surprise to horror fanatics. The gifted Australian actress has become a prominent force in the horror world over the last couple of years — which includes her standout performances in horror/comedy films like Ready or Not and The Babysitter. And with the recent announcement that Weaving has been cast in Scream 6, her devotion to the horror genre continues to increase. Weaving’s unique acting style and superlative use of body language — and, of course, her scream — has further established her credibility, and we expect a slew of future horror projects for the bright star.
3. Neve Campbell
When the discussion of best scream queens is brought up, Neve Campbell undoubtedly needs to be included. The Canadian actress was launched to Hollywood stardom after her groundbreaking performance in Wes Craven’s Scream. From there, Campbell became the face of the slasher franchise, where her inclusion is still demanded to this day — and, despite contract issues, Campbell remains a prominent force in the world of cinematic horror. For her work in horror, Campbell is easily one of the most recognizable and prolific actresses from the ‘90s, and deserves a spot on this list of best scream queens.
2. Sigourney Weaver
Truth be told, Ellen Ripley is one of the most badass characters in the history of horror. Weaver portrayed the memorable heroine in 1979’s Alien — which effectively terrorized audiences and catapulted Weaver to stardom. The now 72-year-old actress went on to portray Ripley four more times in the classic franchise, and her performances only got better with each passing film. Weaver went on to become one of the most recognizable names in the prolific genre, and even obtained roles in other horror staples like The Village and The Cabin In The Woods. As a result, Weaver is solidified as one of the top two scream queens of all time.
1. Jamie Lee Curtis
Did you ever have any doubt? Unquestionably, Jamie Lee Curtis is the most commercially and culturally successful scream queens in the history of the horror genre. Curtis received her major breakthrough back as Laurie Strode in 1978 with John Carpenter’s Halloween, where she quickly achieved massive fame and went on to star in other successful horror projects like The Fog, Prom Night, and Terror Train. As memorable heroine Laurie Strode, Curtis went on to reprise the notable role several times in a slew of sequels. And despite Curtis’ career spanning a variety of genres, she will always hold the distinction of being the best scream queen of all time.

In a Hollywood landscape oversaturated by needless sequels and reboots (ahem, Mean Girls), few films truly justify the need for new installments like the Kingsman franchise. Since its debut film iteration in 2015’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, the spy action series has defied the sophomore slump with The Golden Circle (2017), and might be poised to outdo itself again.
Rumours of a third entry into the franchise ran rampant as soon as The Golden Circle hit cinemas, and those involved in the series have offered hints about a threequel in the years since. So whip out your spy glasses and pinstripe suits, because it’s time to answer the pressing question: will there be a Kingsman 3?
Will there be a Kingsman 3?
By all accounts, a third installment of the Kingsman franchise is definitely in the works, with screenwriters, directors and stars all confirming that a new film is on the way. As recently as October 2023, Matthew Vaughn — who directed the first two Kingsman movies — said that the new film is well underway, and even revealed the working title of Kingsman: The Blue Blood.
The director said the filming for the threequel — which was initially slated for 2021 but delayed due to the pandemic — will now begin sometime in 2024. More recently, in January 2024, Vaughn shed light on the screenwriting process, confirming that both acts one and three of The Blue Blood are being written, but that act two is still a work in progress.
Vaughn also confirmed that The Blue Blood will be the conclusion of a Kingsman trilogy within that timeline, marking the end of Colin Firth and Taron Edgerton’s run as Harry Hart and ‘Eggsy’ Unwin, respectively.
Diehard Kingsman fans needn’t fret too much about the trilogy’s conclusion with The Blue Blood, since Vaughn also has plans for a follow-up to the Kingsman prequel, The King’s Man. Tentatively titled The Traitor King, the spinoff will follow the rise of Adolf Hitler, with Vaughn confirming that the script is already completed.
As for who will be returning to Kingsman 3, it’s safe to assume Egerton will reprise his role, since the actor said as much in March 2023. Egerton revealed that he was “always committed” to doing three Kingsman movies, and confirmed at the time that Vaughn “certainly not” backing off the idea of a threequel.
Vaughn has also reportedly been eyeing Dwayne Johnson to portray the main villain in Kingsman 3, though details of that role — and indeed the broader plot of the film — remain unknown. As of January 2024, there has been no trailer or official release date provided for Kingsman: The Blue Blood.

The Multiverse Saga sure is doing a real number on MCU continuity, isn’t it? Sorry for those who don’t care about the nuts and bolts of Marvel canon, but honestly, if you’re here reading this then you probably do.
New Deadpool 3 synopsis confirms Wade and Wolverine are about to tear up the MCU
You’d better believe Deadpool 3 is going to be Marvel’s first R-rated movie — even its synopses are for mature eyes only. A new Japanese plot summary for the threequel deploys the shocking bombshell that it will see the “f***ing irresponsible hero Deadpool change the history of the MCU with Wolverine.” Excuse me, he’ll what now? Does Kevin Feige know about this? If Deadpool 3 repeats the ending of The Flash and has George Clooney turn up as Iron Man in the final frame, it had better make all the money. If anyone can erase Marvel’s box office troubles from the timeline, it’s Deadpool.
Captain America: Brave New World‘s new suit for Sam Cap gives up its secrets too soon
Ah, merch: both Marvel’s greatest money-maker and its biggest bane. Thanks to a rogue snap that’s made its way online, we’ve now got our first look at the new superhero suit worn by Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in Captain America: Brave New World. As you’d expect, reactions are split down the middle, like Steve Rogers’ shield after Thanos had a go at it. Partly that’s because Sam only got to wear his last one for just five minutes at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier and we all liked it. Sure, it’s a brave new world but we would’ve been fine with a familiar old suit.
Guardians 3‘s James Gunn and Zoe Saldaña seem all but confirmed to reunite in the DCU
The one shining light of Marvel’s misshapen 2023 was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which earned a whopping $845 million at the box office. The only problem is that writer/director James Gunn has since hopped to DC, and it looks like he’s taking his Guardians with him. Gamora herself Zoe Saldaña has admitted she would love to work with Gunn again on a new superhero project, while Gunn has similarly admitted that he’s already got some roles for her in mind. Add in Sean “Kraglin” Gunn playing Maxwell Lord and persistent rumors Chris Pratt could be Booster Gold, and it seems likely that the entire Guardians team could reassemble one day… Just not in the MCU. Oh well, if it does happen, blame Deadpool for messing with the timeline.

We know that Warner Bros. has been actively looking for ways to expand the wizarding world of Harry Potter, but how likely are we to get a new film, a sequel, or a remake in the near future?
The acclaimed status of the film franchise, which ran from 2001 to 2011, arguably doesn’t leave a lot of leeway for a remake, but that has hardly stopped Hollywood moguls before. In fact, it has been confirmed that a television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s fantasy saga with a whole different cast is already in the works.
Many Potterheads have been left wondering why WB is going to such lengths just to reproduce Harry Potter with a fresh coat of paint, but according to the producers have claimed as part of the announcement, this new series is going to be meticulously adapting every bit of the Harry Potter novels that didn’t make it to the big screen.
Frankly, that doesn’t begin to justify a television show by half, but Harry Potteris one of the most prized IPs currently out there. If Amazon is willing to throw away more than a billion dollars developing a mediocre Lord of the Rings television adaptation, what’s stopping a rival from doing the same with their No. 1 moneymaker? (Ironically enough, Warner continues to retain the rights to Lord of the Rings movies.)
So, whether we’d like to admit it or not, there’s probably going to be another Harry Potter movie somewhere down the line, but how far away and in what form are the real questions…
Will there be another Harry Potter movie?
For years now, Potterheads have had to live with the dreadful possibility of a Cursed Child movie adaptation looming on the horizon.
For those of you who don’t know, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was J.K. Rowling’s official sequel to The Deathly Hallows, taking place many years after the events of that book and centering around Harry, Hermione, and Ron’s children. There were a host of controversial creative decisions bogging down The Cursed Child, and suffice it to say, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone, Potterhead or otherwise, who doesn’t hate that story.
Luckily, Warner Bros. has shown a surprising sense of insight by avoiding The Cursed Child up to this point but the rumor mill has recently been abuzz with speculation. Further fanning those flames was director Chris Columbus’ remarks to The Hollywood Reporter, saying that he wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of directing The Cursed Child.
“A version of Cursed Child with Dan, Rupert and Emma at the right age, it’s cinematic bliss,” he said. “If you’re a film nerd or cinephile, it’s kind of like what Abrams did with Star Wars. There’s no question if you’re a Star Wars fan, you were moved just seeing them on screen, seeing Harrison Ford as Han Solo again and Chewy. I think that would be the same situation for Harry Potter fans. To able to actually see these adult actors now back in these roles? Oh, yeah. It would be amazingly fun to make that film or two films.”
As for the cast members, we have a clip of Rupert Grint saying that he’d love to return to the role if the project gets the timing right and everyone else is on board.
“I don’t hate the idea of it,” he explains. “I mean, it was a character that I love. As long as everyone else was on board, I probably would.”
Rupert goes on to explain that it might also be a good idea to “pass the torch” and let someone else have a go at his character, which, with the television reboot currently undergoing pre-production, is likely happening.
Daniel Radcliffe, on the other hand, wishes to let the past die.
“This isn’t the answer that anybody’s going to want, but I think I was so able to go back and enjoy it because it’s not a part of my day-to-day life anymore,” he told The New York Times in 2022. “I’m getting to a point where I feel like I made it out of Potter okay, and I’m really happy with where I am now, and to go back would be such a massive change to my life.”
Frankly, after watching Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts and reliving all those nostalgic memories, few of us would be actively against the idea of another sequel movie, even if it does end up adapting The Cursed Child in all of its distasteful disregard for established lore and continuity.
However, there have been no announcements yet, and the rest of the scuttlebutt should be taken with a boatload of salt. Besides, with Fantastic Beasts 3 going down as the lowest-grossing film in the Wizarding World franchise, I think it’s safe to say that WB will think twice before greenlighting another big-screen venture.

So far, the film’s faced both good press — Harrison Ford is playing Red Hulk? What a timeline to be alive! — and bad — Marvel introducing its first Israeli superhero at a particularly politically charged time. Similarly, a new leak offering us our first glimpse at a big shake-up no one was asking for appears to be splitting fans down the middle. While some are excited to see the change in action, others don’t see why it needed to be altered at all.
Yes, I’m referring to the leaked look at the new superhero suit (via DisTrackers) set to be worn by Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in Captain America 4. “Love it,” gushed one fan, while another argued, “It looks cool, just wish they stuck with the suit from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier a little longer.” Another asked what we’re all thinking: “Why would they give him a suit in tfatws if he won’t ever wear it again?”
While that might be a smart question to ponder from a financial standpoint — why are you spending all that cash on a new suit, Marvel, when you only used the last one for five minutes? — there is a stronger, creative reason for the change in costume and its particular design. It presents the filmmakers’ authorial intent to the audience that they are aiming to measure up to one of Marvel’s finest ever movies.
Sam Wilson’s new Captain America suit reveals Brave New World‘s Winter Soldier ambitions
What’s really striking about Sam’s second Cap suit is how blue it is. In contrast to the one he briefly wore in the finale to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it has none of the prominent white detailing that was so in keeping with his comic book costume. Instead it’s a stripped-back, streamlined design whose only concession to color is the traditional American flag-styled midriff section. Some might be disappointed that Marvel is diverting from the source material like this, but on the plus side, you know what this reminds us of? Steve Rogers’ suit in his own second solo outing as Cap, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Marvel Studios has been infamously chasing the gritty, spy thriller highs of TWS ever since 2014, with the Multiverse Saga trying and — sadly mostly failing — twiceover already in Black Widow and Mackie’s own The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. By decking Sam out in almost a mirror version of Steve’s TWS suit, however, it signals to the fans that the MCU is attempting yet again to repeat the Phase Two highlight’s success. But this time it might actually pull it off.
One thing that TWS had going for it was its villains, with Sebastian Stan’s conflicted Bucky Barnes serving as its emotional core and Robert Redford’s duplicitous Alexander Pierce adding a touch of old-fashioned Hollywood class. Both Black Widow and Falcon were unfortunately saddled with underwritten villains, but Brave New World can change that. Not only is Ford’s Thaddeus Ross set to be a big obstacle — as President of the United States, no less — but Tim Blake Nelson is back for the first time since The Incredible Hulk as the Leader. Throw in rumors of the Serpent Society and you’ve got yourself a villain-palooza.
Even more pertinently, Sam’s arc in Brave New World closely reflects Steve’s in Winter Soldier. Just as Steve was adjusting to the 21st century in that film, so Sam is still adjusting to becoming Captain America himself in this one. Steve had to go on the run as he went up against a corrupted S.H.I.E.L.D. and Sam may likewise become a fugitive if President Ross turns against him. After what will be over a decade, Marvel might just be delivering Captain America 2‘s true sequel in Captain America 4.
