Latest Marvel News: Fans call on Brie Larson to end an MCU losing streak as ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ gets accused of war crimes

2023 is almost upon us, and as always, the next 12 months will bring a slew of brand new Marvel Cinematic Universe content to both the big screen and Disney Plus.

However, fans have been calling on Brie Larson to save the franchise from what could potentially be its longest losing streak ever, while the Thor: Love and Thunder discourse has proven that it’s not ready to quietly slink off into the night as the year draws to a close.

Horror fans debate if a spooky, short-lived Netflix series is worth a watch

If devil-worshipping cults and pentagrams are what you’re into, the Netflix series Devil in Ohio (2022) might be right up your alley. However, an online debate is brewing with a split decision on whether or not the show is any good.

Emily Deschanel, Sam Jaeger, Madeleine Arthur, and Xaria Dotson star in this eight-episode series in which a young girl with a pentagram carved into her back has been brought to the hospital. She won’t identify herself to anyone nor divulge any information until she finally meets Dr. Suzanne Mathis, played by Deschanel. The doctor takes on the task of caring for her while she tries to find her a foster home. Meanwhile, Suzanne’s family is beginning to have tensions and this may not be an ideal time to bring this girl into the situation who is now identified as Mae.

One simple solution could have avoided the most embarrassing shared universe failure of all-time

One simple solution could have avoided the most embarrassing shared universe failure of all-time

In the rush to compete with Marvel Studios, virtually every outfit in Hollywood threw its hat into the shared mythology ring to decidedly mixed results, but none of them crashed and burned harder or faster than Universal’s Dark Universe.

Tom Cruise’s The Mummy was designed to be the launchpad for an interconnected series of horror-tinged blockbusters that would have seen Nick Fury’s Dr. Jekyll thread the various stories together as the franchise’s Nick Fury figure, with Javier Bardem’s Frankenstein, Johnny Depp’s Invisible Man, Angelina Jolie’s Bride of Frankenstein, and Dwayne Johnson’s Wolfman all rumored to be on the docket at one stage or another.

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ continues its staggering box office run by earning more than it did last weekend

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ continues its staggering box office run by earning more than it did last weekend

It sounds ridiculous to think that Avatar: The Way of Water was being labeled as a flop after its first weekend in theaters, because we’ve learned better than to doubt James Cameron, with the filmmaker once again pointing and laughing directly in the face of his doubters.

Not only has the sci-fi sequel been tearing it up at the box office both at home and abroad, but it sailed past the billion-dollar threshold in less than two weeks, becoming one of the fastest movies ever to do so. Not only that, but it’s already surpassed Top Gun: Maverick as 2022’s highest-grossing overseas release, and it ain’t done yet by a long shot.

James Gunn addresses rumors of studio interference on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

James Gunn addresses rumors of studio interference on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

With the notable exception of Thor: The Dark World, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has very rarely been plagued by rumors of studio interference, which is incredibly ironic when you consider the accusation being leveled at James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The filmmaker is currently splitting his time between both of Hollywood’s marquee superhero franchises, but he’ll be bidding farewell to the MCU in just a few short months when his band of cosmic misfits headline their long-awaited third movie. Several major DC projects have infamously been subject to the grubby fingerprints of executive meddling – most notably David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and Joss Whedon’s Justice League – which is something Gunn will be looking to eradicate for a more harmonious future.

If Rian Johnson uses Andrew Tate’s downfall as inspiration for ‘Knives Out 3,’ it could become his most important film yet

If Rian Johnson uses Andrew Tate’s downfall as inspiration for ‘Knives Out 3,’ it could become his most important film yet

Rian Johnson is the talk of the entertainment world with his recently released Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and the success of his star-powered Knives Out movie realm so far. From Jamie Lee Curtis and Chris Evans, to Dave Bautista and Janelle Monáe, Daniel Craig’s mystery-solving skills have partnered him with some of our favorite actors and actresses for two films, with a possible third on the horizon.

That’s right, Johnson is already looking forward to a third installment, though the idea of them all having Knives Out in the title isn’t something he was jumping at the bit about. Johnson spoke with The Atlantic and explained that he’s grateful for the plane that these movies exist on, but he wasn’t sure they were going to be a Knives Out series, so to speak.

Forget vibranium and adamantium, Marvel’s most precious metal might be about to seriously shake up Phase 5

Forget vibranium and adamantium, Marvel’s most precious metal might be about to seriously shake up Phase 5

At this point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, everybody knows what vibranium is. From Captain America’s shield to the Black Panther’s armor and Wakanda’s infrastructure, the fictional metallic ore has permeated every corner of the MCU. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever only increased the discourse surrounding it after discovering that Wakanda isn’t the only country harboring the energy-manipulating metal.

That being said, vibranium must now compete with a whole other metallic compound – adamantium, to be specific – now that the MCU is bringing the X-Men into the fold. Considered virtually indestructible, adamantium is most widely associated with the claws that come out of Wolverine’s knuckles, but its history takes back all the way to the demigod Hercules.

The Andrew Tate movie fan casting has begun, with a Marvel star eyed for Greta Thunberg

If you’re keeping track of the news, then you’re probably already well aware that the last 24 hours have been an absolute whirlwind for boxer-turned-internet-personality Andrew Tate. In the aftermath of the 36-year-old former kickboxer being arrested in Romania in light of recent human trafficking charges, fellow netizens have already begun preparing for the upcoming Andrew Tate movie — which already has some interesting names attached to it.

Over on Twitter, where most people are talking about Tate’s unfathomable online encounter with climate activist Greta Thunberg, one user jokingly shared the possibilities surrounding a possible Tate movie in the future. In the tweet, user @MediumSizeMeech insisted that Thunberg could easily be portrayed by Marvel superstar Florence Pugh, while The Northman star Alexander Skarsgård could portray Tate. And, of course, the cherry on top would be A24 behind the production.

‘Star Wars’ stans wonder if the panic button marked ‘Disney Plus’ could redeem Rey’s polarizing story

‘Star Wars’ stans wonder if the panic button marked ‘Disney Plus’ could redeem Rey’s polarizing story

Perhaps unfairly, Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker is often at the center of criticism about Disney’s sequel trilogy. For many Star Wars fans, she’s emblematic of the project’s flaws: the eventual reveal she’s Palpatine’s granddaughter doesn’t make sense, she’s pilloried as a Mary Sue for being naturally good at everything, and making her the embodiment of “all the Jedi” doesn’t feel earned.

Maybe this isn’t necessarily a problem with Rey herself, but with the movies she was in, and the fact that her story wasn’t planned out ahead of time. Now, fans are wondering whether there’s room for redemption with a solo show on Disney Plus:

‘The Flash’ merch hints that Michael Keaton is returning with even more of his wonderful toys

As far as we’ve been led to believe, The Flash is still theoretically coming out next summer. The debut solo film for the Scarlet Speedster has faced a journey through development hell. Originally intended for a 2016 release, it gradually cycled through directors and scripts before finally going before the cameras in 2021. Then came a mountain of terrible press about star Ezra Miller, shortly followed by a creative shakeup at Warner Bros.

As such, many fans have called for The Flash to follow Batgirl and be permanently shelved, but the fact we’re beginning to see merchandise emerge indicates that it’s full steam ahead.

‘Deadpool 3’ could deliver on the one part of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ we want to see more of

It’s no secret that Thor: Love and Thunder left a lot to be desired. The half-hearted follow-up to its highly acclaimed predecessor did little in the way of progressing the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the next stage of its evolution. However, if a popular MCU theory comes to fruition then the doors it left open might be worth the less-than-satisfying trek it took to get there.

Now, hear us out, because what we’re about to say may feel odd at first. Eternals – you know, the only MCU film to receive a rotten-rated score on Rotten Tomatoes? – might have actually paved the way for Deadpool 3 to bring Hugh Jackman back on board as the fan-favorite X-Men, Wolverine. At the very least, it paved the way for mutants to enter the fold

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ producers promise a cinematic experience you’ve never had before

Exceeding the expectations set by a movie as widely loved and praised as Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse can not have been an easy task for Sony Pictures Animation producers and writers Chris Miller and Phil Lord, but they’re assuring fans that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will maintain the level of novelty and surprise of its predecessor.

In order to build on the boundary-pushing style of the first film, Miller and Lord had to take Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to new heights which, they say, “made some people nervous.” Big rewards usually take big risks, after all.

The first installment in a severely overlooked disaster saga survives a streaming tidal wave

The first installment in a severely overlooked disaster saga survives a streaming tidal wave

As you can imagine, the disaster genre doesn’t often tend to lead to a multi-film franchise, because there’s only so much destruction that can go around. Norway clearly wasn’t listening, though, with 2015’s The Wave igniting what currently stands as a trilogy, but could yet spawn additional installments.

Directed by Roar Uthaug, the mastermind behind the failed attempt at rebooting Tomb Raider and Netflix’s most successful foreign-language feature ever Troll, the fairly by-the-numbers story finds a geologist and his family running for their lives and fighting for survival when a 250-foot tidal wave begins wreaking untold devastation.

James Cameron battling ‘Top Gun’ for box office supremacy is giving serious 1986 vibes

There’s a reason studios give James Cameron massive budgets and let him do whatever he wants. Throughout his career, he’s taken on massive projects that have had industry insiders making dire predictions for a box office flop.

In the 1990s, Titanic was widely considered to be a cinematic disaster in the making (box office $2.2 billion), Avatar had naysayers saying audiences wouldn’t turn up for weird blue cat people (box office $2.9 billion), and most recently Avatar: The Way of Water was a said to be a sequel made far too late (box office $1 billion and counting).

‘Star Wars’ supporters aren’t exactly sold on Rian Johnson’s ‘The Last Jedi’ explanation

‘Star Wars’ supporters aren’t exactly sold on Rian Johnson’s ‘The Last Jedi’ explanation

Rian Johnson is on a well-deserved victory lap after the global success of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, though his heart clearly still lies in a galaxy far, far away. He’s repeatedly said he wants to return to Star Wars to finally make his long-in-development movie trilogy, and indications are that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy’s door is open to him.

If he did return, then expect controversy, as many fans are still sore about 2017’s The Last Jedi. In an interview earlier this week, Johnson attempted to explain how he wanted to make “a movie” rather than simply a piece of intellectual property, saying “I love an ending where you burn the Viking boat into the sea.”

Latest Sci-Fi News: James Gunn haters and Zack Snyder stans get a reality check as ‘Avatar 2’ passes a major box office haul

Due to his impeccable track record in both the MCU and the DCEU, most comic book enthusiasts were thrilled about James Gunn coming on board to lead the latter into a glorious new age of cinematic acclaim, but what the creative had to inevitably do to achieve that has caused a fraction in the community, and that’s putting it lightly.

Meanwhile, Avatar: The Way of Water has just passed the $1 billion hallmark at the global box office, rekindling hopes of salvation for the most expensive sequel in history as The Last of Us fans breathe a sigh of relief over a potential movie adaptation getting canceled.

Will Kit Harington’s Black Knight appear in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’?

Will Kit Harington’s Black Knight appear in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’?

One of the best parts about the conclusion of the Infinity Saga and the beginning of the Multiverse Saga is that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been able to bring a host of new superheroes, villains, and storylines into the fold.

After Thanos was put in the ground and the time stones were returned to their respective timelines, it was business as usual on Earth-616. In reality, though, it wasn’t: over at the TVA the time-keepers were holding Loki hostage; Wanda was creating her own reality; and the Eternals were finally learning about their true mission on Earth. The biggest threat to the survival of the multiverse, though, was brewing under the surface, gearing up for an explosive conclusion that will reach its apex when Avengers: Secret Wars, the last film in Phase Six and the end of an MCU era, releases in 2026.

Kate Hudson was not about to chance alcohol bloat before getting into that instantly iconic orange bikini she wore in the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery pool scene.

The 43-year-old actress stopped by Britain’s This Morning on Wednesday to promote the murder mystery ensemble film, which she likened to writer and director Rian Johnson’s ability to “put the best dinner party together that you could ever possibly imagine.”And by all accounts, it sounds as though the group had a blast while filming, which occurred during the peak of the Covid-19 Delta wave.

The one ‘Glass Onion’ character we all forgot was in ‘Stranger Things’

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is chock-full of big-name celebrities who’ve starred in some of our favorite movies and TV shows. Among them, is 25-year-old actress Madelyn Cline, a rising star whose role in the Rian Johnson film has catapulted her to the forefront of the conversation. Cline, as it turns out, is no stranger to starring in mega-hit successes, which also includes one of Netflix’s biggest shows of all time, Stranger Things

Just 20 years old at the time, Cline played a high school student named Tina in the season two premiere of Stranger Things titled “Chapter One: MADMAX.” Remember Tina? The girl had nothing but praise for Billy Hargrove’s backside as he stepped out of his 1970s Chevrolet Camaro and sauntered through the high school parking lot smoking a cigarette.

‘Star Wars’ theory suggests Palpatine was much better at playing politics than he was as Emperor

‘Star Wars’ theory suggests Palpatine was much better at playing politics than he was as Emperor

Say what you will about Star Wars‘ Emperor Palpatine, but the guy sure knew how to play the long game. Prior to The Phantom Menace, he concocted a sinister plan to slowly take control of the Galactic Senate, dismantle the Jedi Order, and install himself as an all-powerful Imperial ruler. Then, as we saw in the prequels, he executed it almost flawlessly.

After that, things fell apart surprisingly quickly. The Empire lasted only 24 years before the Rebels’ decisive victory at the Battle of Endor, which saw the second Death Star destroyed and culminated in the deaths of both Darth Vader and Palpatine (well, temporarily in his case). Now, fans are concluding that while Palpatine was an A-plus schemer, he may not have been the best at actually ruling the galaxy with an iron fist.

A haunting psychological thriller brainwashes a new cult of followers on streaming

Given that she’s been a key player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for close to a decade, and comfortably stands as one of the most popular stars on the planet, it’s incredible to think that Elizabeth Olsen only made her onscreen acting debut a little over 10 years ago in Martha Marcy May Marlene.

It was a hell of an arrival onto the scene, too, with the actress instantly blowing any accusations that she was hoping to piggyback on her siblings’ success and ride the coattails of being the third Olsen sister to stardom so far out of the water that they ended up in the stratosphere.

‘Eternals’ fans crossing their fingers tighter than ever as new sequel speculation emerges

Eternals remains one of the most unique films in the vast MCU lineup. Chloé Zhao’s epic trip through the franchise’s prehistory and its team of immortal superheroes stands apart from everything else we’ve seen from Marvel Studios. That may be why it was a relative disappointment at the box office, though it still managed to make $400 million on a $200 million budget.

Talk is finally beginning to build of an official Eternals 2 announcement, bolstered by a reveal from Gilgamesh actor Don Lee’s agency that “Eternals 2 and other global projects he’ll be appearing in are planned to be produced.” Despite a Harry Styles-teasing credits scene, it was by no means guaranteed that a full sequel would ever happen, so this tidbit of information has fans celebrating.

‘Star Wars’ stans share their one-word fixes for the sequel trilogy

It’s no secret that the Star Wars trilogy sequel movies aren’t the fan’s favorites – especially Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Now fans are discussing what would make those movies better. Over on the Star Wars subreddit, user sexual–chocolate posted about the issue with a post titled: “One word that would have made the sequels a lot better: commitment.”

“[The] trilogy would’ve ended on a much stronger note if they had simply committed to the plot points established in 8 when they made 9,” they said. “… The entire thing is just a terrible fanfiction.net fever dream.”
