Latest ‘Star Wars’ News: Fans debate Luke’s original trilogy power levels as we rank the clones of Jango Fett

It’s been a quiet day for Star Wars fans, but as always there’s much to debate. Today fans have spent time figuring out the age-old question of how powerful a Jedi Luke was during the original trilogy, while one of our resident experts picks through the prequel-era movies and TV shows to highlight the best clones of Jango Fett.

Was Luke really a Jedi in the original trilogy?

The Phantom Menace saw the Jedi Masters debating whether they should accept Anakin Skywalker, as he was considered too old to begin Jedi training. That’s always sat awkwardly against the original trilogy, as Luke began his training when he was much older than Anakin was. Beyond that, Luke only received the briefest training from an elderly Obi-Wan, and while Yoda picked up the slack, Dagobah isn’t a patch on the training facilities in the Jedi Temple.

Review: ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ lets the witches run amok, amok, amok along with its plot

I smell… a sequel that should have never made it past the gates of Walt Disney Studios.

Yes, yes, Hocus Pocus 2 is here, and the Sanderson sisters are back to exact revenge on Salem. But while the witches do manage to put a spell on us, their bewitching skills have taken a serious hit courtesy of a plot that doesn’t even try to find its footing.

‘Nosferatu’ remake casts two surprising stars as it finally rises from the grave

‘Nosferatu’ remake casts two surprising stars as it finally rises from the grave

The Northman director Robert Eggers has found his next movie, and it’s one he’s been trying to drag out of development hell for years. The acclaimed filmmaker first announced he was working on a remake of seminal silent horror film Nosferatu way back in 2015, but the project has been stuck in limbo ever since. Following yesterday’s news that Eggers is finally moving forward with the project, the production has now landed its somewhat surprising leading stars.

As first reported by Deadline, Lily-Rose Depp and Bill Skarsgard have been cast in the new Nosferatu. This might be a surprise to Eggers enthusiasts as Anya Taylor-Joy has been nominally attached to play the film’s female lead for years. Clearly, The Queen Gambit star’s busy schedule made her unavailable to commit to working with the director for a third time, after The Northman and The VVitch.

Latest ‘Game of Thrones’ News: The internet calls Elizabeth Olsen’s bluff on those ‘House’ rumors as Spanish outlet reveals season 2’s filming date

It goes without saying that if House of the Dragon was even half as successful as it is now, HBO would’ve probably greenlit a second and even a third season. But with the prequel series breaking records left and right, the Westerosi crew is pushing ahead with preparations for the next chapter in the story, and a Spanish outlet has recently reported an approximate filming window for Ryan Condal and his team.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth Olsen has addressed those spiraling rumors about her addition to the ensemble, though the internet is not sure whether she’s being genuine or just pulling an Andrew Garfield. She is his MCU co-star, after all.

The wait is finally over: MCU’s first sidekick is finally getting their own movie

When multiple Marvel announcements were made at various conventions over the summer, one notably absent title was Armor Wars, which last we heard was a Disney Plus show that was supposedly starring Don Cheadle as James Rhodes AKA War Machine. The project is still in the works, it turns out, but it’s been upgraded from a TV show to a full-blown movie headed for theaters.

Yassir Lester, who was previously attached as the head writer for the Armor Wars show, will remain attached to the project as the scriptwriter for the feature film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Smile’ director was worried nobody would notice the ingenious viral marketing

Smile is notable not only for being destined to be this year’s horror crowd-pleaser just in time for Halloween, but also for Paramount’s ingenious marketing campaign backing it. However, one marketing stunt was so subtle and dependent on word-of-mouth that writer-director Parker Finn was worried no one would even notice it.

A memorable series of stunts saw people wearing neon yellow shirts with the word “smile” written on them — as well as plain T-shirts with nothing written on them — as they stood in place in the background of publicly broadcasted events, such as at baseball games and in amongst the crowd in the background of news broadcasts, sporting a statue-like grin painted across their faces, as We Got This Covered previously reported. Check out some examples below.

Streaming viewers peer in at an overblown thriller that substituted star power for stupidity

If filmmaking was as easy as pointing a camera at a star-studded cast and then letting their undoubted talent do all the work, maybe co-writer and director Antti Jokinen’s The Resident wouldn’t have been so interminably uninteresting.

After all, the psychological thriller was headlined by two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank, with the ever-reliable Jeffrey Dean Morgan sinking his teeth into an increasingly hammy turn as the erstwhile villain of the piece. On top of that, support came from Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated star Lee Pace, Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis, and the legendary Christopher Lee.

Latest ‘Game of Thrones’ News: People lose their cool over Elizabeth Olsen fan art as other viewers find new creative ways to roast Ser Criston

We’ve barely been introduced to the two new leads replacing Rhaenyra and Alicent in House of the Dragon, and only just adjusted to the staggering 10-year time jump the show made between episodes five and six, but some fans are already looking beyond season one and towards when the ensemble will have to go through another shift.

On other fronts, some parts of the community are trying too hard to make fun of Ser Criston Cole and his hypocritical dispositions. Not that we blame them, precisely, but we could’ve sworn they were ready to leap to his defense when he was just a shining knight in armor riding a dun stallion.

Read J.R.R. Tolkien shred this ’50s ‘Lord of the Rings’ adaptation script into pieces

The Lord of the Rings fans have unearthed Tolkien’s critique of a ’50s adaptation script and are now wondering what the author would really think of Peter Jackson’s works, much less Amazon’s The Rings of Power series.

There’s recently been a lot of criticisms aimed at Amazon Studios and how they’re going against what Tolkien intended for Middle-earth in the original source material. Some of the most ferocious gatekeepers think The Rings of Power could never rise to the level of Peter Jackson’s cinematic trilogy, but with the community recently discovering the author’s response to a potential Lord of the Rings adaptation from the ’50s, they’re no longer sure if the father of high fantasy literature would even approve of Jackson’s efforts, hailed by almost everyone as a timeless masterpiece.

Tubi’s releases the trailer for the movie that nobody asked for, ‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial’

Tubi’s releases the trailer for the movie that nobody asked for, ‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial’

It has been less than four months since a jury reached a decision in the acrimonious defamation trial between former spouses Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, which was broadcast live for the world to watch. And though many of us are understandably still fatigued over the coverage and are not looking to revisit the topic anytime soon, for better or worse, Tubi has just released the trailer for its upcoming original movie, Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial. But if we’re being completely honest — probably for worse!

The TV movie stars Mark Hapka (Days of Our Lives), 40, as the 59-year-old Depp, doing what appears to be a poor man’s version of the Johnny Depp courtroom costume that we’ll be seeing everywhere this Halloween. Meanwhile, Megan Davis (Alone in the Dark) plays a budget crime reenactment version of Amber Heard, while Melissa Marty (Station 19) stars as Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez, and last but not least, Marry Carrig (Law & Order True Crime) as Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft.

The MCU’s love of a fake-out death means nobody believes in an ambiguous demise anymore

The MCU’s love of a fake-out death means nobody believes in an ambiguous demise anymore

Fans of the MCU are starting to feel a little skeptical when it comes to characters’ deaths on screen. Though there have been plenty of deaths, not a whole lot of them are sticking with characters finding ways to come back, whether through the multiverse, through time travel, or in Wanda’s case, magic.

Wanda’s corruption through the use of the Darkhold and turn to dark magic forces her into conflict with Doctor Strange with the two battling out over America Chavez in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. After Chavez intervenes and shows Wanda the monster that she has become, the witch decides to destroy the Darkhold before bringing down her mountain fortress entombing herself within. Viewers saw a flash of Wanda’s red magic before the structure crumbled leaving many under the very strong impression that it intervened before she could be crushed.

Netflix subscribers are about to start a mass exodus, according to a new poll

It sounds a lot like Netflix is about to about a big subscriber problem on its hands. Coinciding with the streamer’s TUDUM global fan event last week, a new survey found that one in four Netflix users are planning to leave the platform by the end of the year. That’s on top of the whopping 1.2 million subscriber losses the company already reported in the first two quarters of 2022.

The findings come courtesy of Reviews.org, which surveyed 1,000 Americans aged 16 years and older about their streaming habits, streaming service subscriptions, and “feelings about Netflix in particular” last month.

Art has now imitated life, kind of, as Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen, who has won critical acclaim and a string of award nominations for her role as sometime Avengers nemesis Wanda Maximoff, is taking that feud to the streets. Or more specifically, to the pages of Variety, describing the team of heroes as “kind of selfish” in a video interview produced for the magazine’s 2022 Power of Women event.

“I think the Avenger that will have done more for mankind… I mean, they’re all kind of selfish, aren’t they, in some way?” Elizabeth Olsen says, adding “They’ve all got personal goals and dreams,” before admitting, ”I’m not very good at answering this kind of trivia!”

‘Star Wars’ supporters wonder how much Obi-Wan knew of Anakin’s forbidden love

‘Star Wars’ supporters wonder how much Obi-Wan knew of Anakin’s forbidden love

One of the Star Wars universe’s famous flings, Anakin and Padmé’s love affair was as scandalous as it was cringey. As a Jedi, Anakin was forbidden to engage in romantic relationships or get married, but that didn’t stop the young Jedi from falling head over heels for the senator he was meant to protect. Now, the internet is wondering just how much Obi-Wan knew, and if Anakin and Padme didn’t know that he knew that they knew…

The Jedi rules specifically forbid possessive attachment, believing that loss or jealousy could produce strong emotions and lead to the Dark Side, and would you look at what happened. This is also true of familial attachment, as they often separated children who were force-sensitive from their parents at an early age. Though this rule seems brutal, Anakin proves, once again, why it may not have been such a terrible idea.
